News02 October 2008 Three DVDs I wish to mention three DVDs (in English language on sale via Internet) that I find very interesting from the point of view of both photography and history. The first is entitled “Ansel Adam Photographer” and it is a colour film about the life of AA 60 minutes long. It is a high quality movie that allows to know in deep this extraordinary artist who contributed so relevantly to the art of photography and also to the issue of Nature’s conservation (on sale on www.anseladams.com). The second is entitled “Brett Weston Photographer, a Film by Art Wright”, in black and white and 30 minutes long. This is another movie on the life of a photographer, Brett Weston, son of the mythical Edward Weston. Brett is hardly known in Italy in spite of his reputation of being one among the greatest photographers of all times. The DVD contains interviews with Brett Weston, with Beaumont and Nancy Newhall, and with Don Ross and included 892 photographs from the Brett Weston Archive. (on sale on www.brettwestonphotographer.com or www.ventanaeditions.com). “The Roots of California Photography: The Monterey Legacy” , narrated by Jack Lemmon and 56 minutes long (in colour and on sale on www.westongallery.com or Hank Fine Arts www.hankfinearts.com) is an amazing story of Californian photography. From Edward Weston to Wynn Bullock, from Margrethe Mather to Morley Bear, from Ansel Adams to John Sexton, this is a fascinating journey through some of the greatest artists of the world that will help the spectator to see the world with renewed eyes and discover the passion for black and white photography. |
